Money Advice
TARA money advice project is driven by the desire to help people whose lives are being overturned by debt and money problems. Most of the services are African refugees and asylum seekers who are low on income and have got language barriers to overcome, live in isolation. They find it difficult to manage their everyday lifestyle.
To date we have helped over one hundred asylum seekers and refugees and other locally based communities with our high quality, free, face-to-face and over the telephone money advice services. Many of our members have received a positive feedback from the United utility trust fund giving them a grant of up to £1000 towards their water arrears and have received white goods such as Fridges, cookers and washing machines from the trust.
We support those in need of information regarding assistance on debts, welfare benefits, housing and access to public services. We are mainly providing debt advice particularly relating to priority, utility bills and how to deal with debt collectors.
We support members deal with debt issues by liaising with their service provider therefore making calls to their service providers on their behalf to put together a payment arrangement. We help members fill in financial support application forms such as United Utilities Trust Fund and British gas trust fund, we also assist in making referrals to appropriate organisations.
Please feel free to tour our website to find out about our background, and other services our organization provide. Find out how you can be assisted, and supported.
ENERGY SAVING WORKSHOP
TARA organised some energy savings workshops last year. The aim was to literate people about saving energy and keep their houses warm. People really appreciated TARA effort as the workshop gave them ideas about saving energy and also about the grants and services available in their local areas regarding fuel poverty.
