Cummunity Cohesion Project
The community Cohesion Project is a project that was set up to bring communities together. To bring awareness of different cultures, backgrounds and communities so that there will be a better understanding between them and bringing cohesin within the communities. This is done through various activities that will gather people from different communities such as: the indian community, the pakistani community, English community, Oromo community, bengladeshi community, the african community and others.
A WEEK-END AT THE PEAK DISTRICT NATIONAL PARK (30th May-1st Jun.08)
This event was organised for the community of Tameside to raise awareness of the “diversity in Tameside and provide an opportunity to exchange and share ideas and to network with local Tameside communities.
During their time there, they stayed at the Crowden Youth Hostel in Derbyshire. There were various activities organised during this time. Participants had a choice to take part in different activities such as cycling and mountain biking, walking, zip wire or canoeing and there were also self-guided walk around Crowden during the afternoons there was a choice between orienting
Water Sports, Kayaking or Stream Cramble . On Saturday evening there was a celebration where all the communities came together to share meals and there was great entertainment from the participants. The workshops were organised with the theme “Community Cohesion Residential” people were free to express their views, this was a good way for the participants to communicate and share ideas. There were various speakers on the trip who all addressed different issues, the speakers were:

Tina Lallement- St Peter’s Partnership
On the last day of the trip participants were presented with certificates of attendance which was presented by Jules Mambu and there was a word of thank at the end to all the participants and speakers.
The event was evaluated through questionnaires and a meeting arranged with all participants to express their views on the event. Most people were satisfied with the trip and it was a great success.
- On average the participants rated the trip (content, speakers, venue and refreshments) as being good.
- Most people stated that they will take back the skills, experience, relationship, and the beauty of natural environment.
- The participants felt that they received relevant and timely information beforehand and they felt included and able to take part in the discussions, they also felt that they were treated with respect.
- Participants commented on the need to continue to work in partnership with different communities, to try to involve other communities as well as those who were included.
- People were willing to participate to future trips, they would like to include picnics and family outing to the peak district and outing with young people.
